A warm spring evening greeted the Clinton varsity boys soccer team as they arrived in Travelers Rest on Wednesday night. The Devils were looking to respond after coming up slightly short against Dixie the prior week, and did just so with a two-goal showing against TRHS’s DevilDogs.
CHS fell behind after keeping the game scoreless for about twenty-five minutes, as the DevilDogs pulled a goal ahead with a tap-in from a cross. The Devils were resilient, however; forward JP Snelgrove beat the keeper off of an assist by midfielder Luke Mann to level the score with a few minutes until halftime. Not satisfied with a 1-1 scoreline, Mann found Snelgrove again, and Snelgrove beat the keeper for his second goal of the contest, putting Clinton 2-1 ahead at halftime.
Both sides came out determined in the second half, as Travelers Rest looked to draw even and Clinton looked to extend their lead on the road. Both teams had long periods of possession, but the half proved goalless after 40 minutes thanks in part to great play from the Clinton defense and several key saves from goalkeeper Colby Suber. With the win, the Devils improve to 2–4 on the season.
CHS will be back in action on Thursday, March 12 as they travel to take on Providence Athletic Club in Lexington at 7:00 p.m.
