The Clinton Red Devils took on the Union County Yellow Jackets Tuesday night in Union. The Red Devils dominated possession of the ball from the start, but struggled to put the ball in the net. Finally Gavin Kiley broke through in the 25th minute with a right-footed strike to the top corner to put the Devils on top 1-0. Unfortunately the lead did not last long. Just before the half, Union got behind the Clinton defense and poked the ball past the Clinton keeper to tie the game at 1-1 going into the break. The second half was much like the first, with Clinton constantly pounding the Union back line but unable to score. The scoreless tie held through regulation and again through overtime, sending the game into penalty kicks. The Devils were able to score twice in PKs, but were unable to match the Yellow Jackets’ three goals to clinch the game. Clinton falls to 0-1 in region play but returns to action Friday, hosting Mid-Carolina at Presbyterian College.
