The Clinton Red Devils boys soccer team took on the Emerald Vikings in the second region match of the year. With the Vikings having handed the Devils their only loss of the season in penalty kicks, Clinton was ready and came out fast. 10 minutes into the match, senior striker JP Snelgrove played a beautiful through ball for overlapping freshman midfielder Jeremiah Gonzalez, who deftly pushed the ball into the side net past a helpless Emerald goalkeeper. In the 20th minute, Gonzalez returned the favor, setting up a goal for Snelgrove to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Vikings responded, however, scoring from distance to cut the lead to 2-1 at halftime. The 2nd half was a frenetic back-and-forth match, but it was the Vikings who capitalized on their opportunities. Emerald scored twice on corner kicks to take a 3-2 lead, and scored a 4th goal late when Clinton pushed forward to go for the equalizer. The final score was 4-2.
Clinton returns to action Friday at Union.
