The Clinton Red Devils took on the Dixie Hornets Thursday night at Erskine College. The game was played at a frantic pace, right out of the gate, with Dixie scoring less than 2 minutes into the game. That lead did not last long, as Luke Mann beat three defenders and drilled a long, arcing shot into the top corner to tie things for the Devils. The game remained tied for most of the first half, but Dixie was able to score twice on penalty kicks to take a 3-1 lead at halftime. The second half looked much like the first, with Dixie notching a goal on a cross and drawing yet another penalty kick to extend its lead to 5-1. The Devils fought back valiantly, responding with 2 goals in a minute span and another ball launched over the goalkeeper’s head and off the crossbar but it was not enough. Dixie won by a score of 5-3. The Red Devils begin region play at Union on Tuesday.
