On Thursday night, the Clinton Red Devils traveled to Woodruff for the 2nd game in a stretch of 3 games on back-to-back days. The Devils were shorthanded, with injuries taking a major toll at this point in the season, but ready to play nonetheless. From the opening whistle, the Devils dominated possession and seemed to control the match. There was constant pressure on the Woodruff defense, but Clinton was not quite able to make that last pass to create a scoring opportunity. Finally, in the 25th minute, a high ball in the Woodruff penalty area was deflected by a Woodruff player into their own goal. Clinton carried this 1-0 lead into halftime by playing stifling defense and limiting Woodruff’s chances to equalize. Early on in the second half, Parker Duncan received a pass about 25 yards from the goal, turned, and fired it into the opposite corner of the goal to extend the Clinton lead. The Devils were able to continue their defensive dominance to carry the 2-0 lead to the final whistle.
