On Tuesday, the Clinton Varsity Boys soccer team took on the Chapman Panthers in the first scrimmage of the season. It was cold and rainy throughout the game, and the Devils started sloppily as well, allowing a Chapman goal only 5 minutes into the game. However, the Devils woke up and answered quickly, with JP Snelgrove turning and firing a strike past the Chapman keeper. Luke Mann scored on a free kick and Zeke Case scored on a header to push the lead to 3-2 at the half. The second half was much more of a defensive struggle, with neither team mustering much offense. Juan Lawson got behind the Chapman defense to add the Devils’ 4th goal, but the Panthers closed the gap to 4-3 soon after. When the final whistle blew, the Devils held on by a score of 4-3.
