The Clinton Red Devils traveled to Woodruff Friday night to take on the Chapman Panthers in a tiebreaker game to determine who gets the 2 seed for playoffs. The game started with both teams playing methodically and taking time to feel each other out. The Devils had some chances but were unable to capitalize, leading to a 0-0 halftime score. After a defensive miscommunication by the Devils, Chapman finally took the lead in the 50th minute by beating the keeper and shooting into an open net. The Devils responded, however, with Patrick Nelson lofting a left-footed shot over the keeper’s head to tie the game in the 65th minute. Overtime was unable to determine a winner, so the match went to penalty kicks. Luke Mann, Gavin Kiley, Victor Barcenas, and J.P. Snelgrove all drove home their shots, while goalkeeper Enerson Hernandez blocked 2 Chapman shots to take the win for the Devils. Clinton will host West Oak in Wilder Stadium on Tuesday.
