Boys Varsity Basketball · Payne Selected for Elite Camp

Senior basketball player JD Payne has been selected to attend the SC Basketball Coaches Association’s (SCBCA) Elite Camp on October 13, at the Ben Lippen School in Columbia.  This is an invitation-only event for the top 100 players in South Carolina. Coaches from Division II and other level schools will be in attendance, as well as scouting services.  In addition, coaches from the all star games will be there. This elite camp will be a piece of the evaluation of players for SCBCA’s preseason awards.  Participants will also receive instruction from many stellar high school coaches.

Payne averaged 15.1 points per game last year, with a season high 31 points versus Laurens.  He was voted team MVP by his teammates, and he was selected as All Region, All County, and the All County MVP.  In addition to his athletic ability, Payne is a strong student.  Head basketball coach Eddie Romines, who nominated Payne for the Elite Camp says, “I am proud of him because he’s worked very hard to earn this recognition.  He is an excellent player, but he is an even better person.”

Congratulations, JD, and GO BIG RED!
