Girls Junior Varsity A-Team Soccer · Contreras to Play At USC-Union

Another Red Devil soccer player will suit up for the Bantams of USC-Union next year.  Senior Tania Contreras signed her letter of intent this morning at CHS.  Contreras is the first female from CHS to sign an NIL for soccer; senior Jack Snelgrove inked his commitment to the Bantams in the fall.

Last year was the first year the Red Devils fielded a girls’ soccer team, and Contreras lead the way.  Prior to that, she played goalie for the boys’ JV team, coached by current varsity soccer coach John Michael Hammond.  Coach Hammond sang her praises during the signing ceremony, admitting that he underestimated her ability when she first came out.  Contreras quickly impressed him, so much so that she was awarded the team’s single award: the HUSTLE award.  Athletic Director Nickie Templeton also praised Contreras’ tenacity and work ethic in both the classroom, the soccer field, and as an JROTC cadet leader.
